The year is 1865 and The Civil War is officially over, but tensions are still high as everyone tries to get back to normal. Emily Evans and her mama, Rachel, are waiting for their men to come home. They’ve spent the last two years doing whatever it takes to hold on to their Texas farm, so when a passel of Union soldiers makes their way through on their way back to the North, the women find a possible solution to keeping their land out of the bank’s hands.
The last battle of the war, a fruitless skirmish at Palmito Ranch, was Isaack Ward’s last chance for a death of honor. When he survives the futile conflict the North lost, he and his men can only begin the long journey home. The last thing he expects is to fall ill and wake up to a loving gaze and halo of golden curls.
Recuperating on a farm somewhere in east Texas, Isaack realizes he has nothing to go home to and only love and comfort where he is. Emily’s sunshiny demeanor and caring outlook provide visions of a future he hadn’t thought he deserved.
When Emily receives word her future husband isn’t coming home, she allows herself to acknowledge the emotions evoked by the quiet soldier with the dangerous eyes. Can she learn to love the enemy?

LOVED IT!!! I absolutely love a great historical romance especially during or after war time. This book gave me all the feels and at times made me swoon. Emily never expected her mom to let the Union Soldiers to stay there while they heal and are well enough to return to their homes. Isaacs never thought he would find love ever again. I instantly feel in love with the story. I couldn't put the book down. The story drew me in like I was watching the story unfold. I highly recommend reading this book.Product details

Loving the Enemy Book B!tches Companion Novella 1 edition by Anne Conley Romance eBooks Reviews
LOVING THE ENEMY is the first companion book in the Book B!tches series. This story is entwined with POWER OF LOVE, the first in the series.
Emily was an integral part in Linc and Vanessa’s story. She was the ghost that helped Vanessa to follow her heart. This is the story of Emily and her love, Isaak, a Yankee soldier!
I loved this story and the tug of loyalty versus heart. Is it being disloyal to love a Yankee?
I do like historical fiction, especially when there is a kernel of true history woven into the fabric of the tale so that I just might learn something without being bored to tears… or is that frustrated to tears by trying to remember those dates? Either way, I loved it!
I thought it was great fun to get insight into who Emily was before she was a ghost. I hope there will be more companion books with some of the other ghosts and their life stories.
Note while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

This was such a sweet enjoyable read. Once I started reading it, I didn’t want to put the book down. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series from the author. This book was well written – smooth and flowed well. Even though it was a short read, it didn’t feel that way. Anne’s books are refreshing to read because they are different from every other romance book you pick up to read. Even though this is not the normal genre for Anne's book, this is another great read!
Great historical novella! I'm a little picky about historicals, some of them are just the same story- some duke or earl , blah blah. Anne Conley spins a different tale of post wartime, rural life, hard work and unexpected love. I purchased this book because I was intrigued by Emily's story, referenced in the first Book B!tches book, and I LOVE IT. Highly recommended, great job Anne!!
I was gifted this book by a freind )
I am not a big fan of historicals ...but really enjoyed this one.
Emily and her family are awaiting the return of her father and her betrothed Jakob after the war. The family farms is about to go into fault and the women are doing their best to keep up so that doesn't happen. Up the dirt roads come a rag tag bunch of soldiers ...ill...exhausted..starving, problem being, they are the enemy. Emily's mother takes them in, feed them, cares for them.... while some do end up
dying... others survive, including Isaack.
This story takes you through all the trials and tribulations the women go through just to stay a float, and the blossoming relationship between Emily and Isaack.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and highly recommend it!
Keeps you interested, as always in an Anne Conley book!
Another good book from Anne Conley. I haven't read any of her books that I didn't like.
I loved this book! Started my reading career with western romance so I always love the opportunity to return to my roots and read a really good one. Loving the Enemy accompanies the Book Bitches series, and gave great insight to the ghosts of Mystic, along with just being a super read on its own, great love story, awesome writing, evil bad guy,I highly suggest the series, and though the ghosts shake things up and cause mischief...they are not cheesy like talking cats....(hate books with talking cats) Your going to love Mystic and all it's citizens, dead and alive. I did.
